Northstar Bikes Van Wrap
Art Director | Graphic Designer | Production Coordinator
When Northstar Bikes reached out about teaming up to create a custom wrap for their new sprinter van, I jumped at the opportunity. When I moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in my early twenties, to ski bum and chase powder turns, I needed to find a way to enjoy the mountainous landscape in warm months. I originally adopted mountain biking as a way of bridging the gap in between ski seasons. Since that fateful day in the spring of 2014, Mountain Biking has become a huge part of my day-to-day life. Since moving back to Buffalo in the Fall of 2016 I even managed to build my community and friend groups around the sport.
I wanted to pair my passion for cycling with Northstar Bike’s existing branding style. I played with shapes, textures, and simple linework illustrations to create a full wrap mural of graphic outdoor scenery. The topographic linework is used as a subtle emphasis of the minimal graphic stylized mountain silhouettes. The night sky is lit up with stars and clouds made of bicycle wheels as a nod to Northstar Bike’s namesake. Each mountain top is highlighted with an additional layer of sparkling vinyl as another subtle way of enhancing the interaction between the night sky and the illuminated mountains below.
